A world that supports the intolerant!
Today I was very dejected. I felt very sad indeed! Where is the world heading to? When people openly practice bigotry! When people are hell bent on destroying other people who do not share their beliefs. When people turn a deaf ear to the cries of women who are raped and forcefully converted to a different belief system.
Recently the BJP led central government announced the CAB (Citizenship Amendment Bill) which passed both houses of the parliament and has now become a law. According to this act people who were once part of pre Independence India (Or people who share a common cultural bond with India) from Pakistan,Afghanistan and Bangladesh and who are facing religious persecution and who have stayed in India for more than 4 years, will be given Citizenship. Since this bill speaks about religiously persecuted minorities, it naturally mentions Hindus,Christians,Parsis, Jains etc. It does not mention the religious majority of these countries. However there has been a heavy influx of people from Bangladesh and Myanmar who also belong to the major religion practiced there. According to an estimate there are about 10 million Bangladeshi refugees living in India. Why have they come to India? No one knows? Maybe they feel they can get a better life here compared to the one they are living in their country? If one were to think this, they do not appear to be very educated or people who are eager to get their children educated. The one advantage is, in certain North Eastern states, there are certain political parties like the CPI, Trinamul Congress or the Indian National Congress which has provided them with Voter IDs and ration cards. During elections these people will form a sizeable votebank for these parties. However, while coming here, they have supplanted the native population in certain villages in Assam and West Bengal. There is also significant red alert from the NSA and the intelligence agencies quoting that this influx is a part of a grand plan to build a corridor connecting Pakistan and Bangladesh. Another stratagem in the hands of terrorists seems to be to separate out Assam from the rest of India. This would ensure that all the North Eastern States would be cut off from India.
No country in the world would welcome illegal immigrants with open arms. They have to see why these people are seeking asylum and if providing asylum would in any way affect the national security. A nation is made up of peoples who have to watch out for each other. If the one entering the nation harbours ill will towards the nation or is entering the nation as part of some grand design to inflict wounds on the nation, then such people should naturally not be allowed. We have seen detention centres in Australia, New Zealand and so many countries. Often people seeking asylum are allowed only in genuine cases. The recent communal riots that are happening in West Bengal, where at some point, people belonging to a certain religion had to flee from areas like Malda etc. Similar events have occurred in UP. As a result the government deemed it fit to deport illegal immigrants back to their nations.
Now amongst these illegal immigrants, there is a small set of people, who have entered India because they are facing religious persecution in their countries. There is almost news every day that women are kidnapped, raped and then married off to someone after converting them. They are threatened that their families would be killed should they go to the police. Many a times, the authorities are hand in glove with such schemes. Even if they are not, they do not have the gall to face the religious heads who systematically are committing such acts. Men are killed. Women raped. There was news from Bangladesh about a mother who had to watch her 13 year old daughter repeatedly gang raped. Their crime? They do not follow the majority religion. In such a theocratic state, they are treated as second class citizens. Raping their women or killing them is considered a sacred act. Such being the case, the people flee without their belongings or properties, but with only their life and cross the border and come to India. Now the Indian government has out of humanitarian consideration proceeded to give them citizenship so that they can live a safe life here.
However, political rivals of the BJP, breaking India forces like the left and Jehadisits who want to bleed India, seized this opportunity and started spreading blatant lies about NRC and CAB. They said this leaving out of a particular religion in the CAB law is against the Indian constitution which promotes equality. Panic stricken mobs were instigated to commit blood thirsty riots. This is something that is the specialisation of the left and the Indian National Congress. Students, from fundamentalist institutes who are already bigoted were used as tools effectively to stage violent demonstrations. Other clueless students were recruited in the cause.
What saddens me in all this is, in asking the government to go back on the CAB, all these people are ensuring that the religiously persecuted minorities from the 3 countries are forced to go back. It is like sending the proverbial sacrificial lamb back to the butcher. Women have also joined these protests. They seem apathetic to the cries of the women who are raped, sometimes gang raped and murdered. How can they, being women not hear the cries of their brethren. India is a nation where, in her very back yard, in the place that was once sanctified by Saraswathi Peetha, genocide of Kashmiri Pandits happened. Over 5 lakh people were forced to leave Kashmir with meagre belongings and become refugees in Jammu and elsewhere. During these protests against CAB, students in Jamia and Aligarh university were shouting slogans like "Hinduon ki khabre khodenge" (We will dig the graves of Hindus). Such blatant anti Hinduism is like the Anti Semitism practiced by Nazis or worse. In yet another protest, the Hindu Symbol Om was made to look like the Nazi symbol. This should have been a protest against the government. Why is Hinduism attacked here?
This reminds me of the case of Girija Tikkoo. She was working in Kashmir. When at one point in time Mosques in Kasmir started announcing "All Kafirs leave the valley. All the men go away and leave your women behind!". Fearing their lives most Pandits including Girija's family fled the valley. The lucky ones escaped. The unlucky ones were killed. Women were molested. Gang raped. Girija once got a call by an acquaintance (A neighbour or a colleague). The person calling her was not a Pandit but belonged to the major religion in the valley. They asked her to come collect her salary and assured her that it is safe now. Reassured, Girija went to Srinagar, never to come back. Girija was the mother of 2 children. Later it was learnt that she was gruesomely gang raped, and then her body was cut into pieces using a Saw. Apparently the process of sawing her in half was begun when she was alive. Her body parts were scattered in the Jhelum river.
This is the scale of violence that happens when religious bigotry (especially of Abrahamic relgions) reaches fever pitch. These kind of atrocities happen regularly in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Pakistan during partition had a Hindu population of 23%. Now Hindus are less than 2% (1.8%). Bangladesh too had about 20%. Now they are less than 3%. Where did all the people disappear. Every day news of gruesome human rights violations are reported from these places. And yet, the international community does not even bat an eye lid. No body cares for Hindus. We saw similar case with Yazidis in Iraq. Before the world's eyes, the ISIS captured and used women from Yazidi community as sex slaves. No one in the international community cared.
It saddens me that on this day, there are more people supporting such genocide and Human rights violations. That their hatred for a particular political party can make them turn a blind eye to atrocities committed on their fellow brethren. Or maybe some want them to suffer, as they have been brought to believe that infidels are diseased and they should be subject to humiliation until they convert to their way of belief. I silently shed tears for my people and culture. I cry for the future of our children. What happened in Kashmir can one day happen Pan India. That is probably the dream that many secretly harbour in their hearts. Perhaps one day, our children may be forced to leave this ancient land to seek asylum elsewhere, just like the Kashmiri Pandits. I cry and pray to Bhavani mata who is like the mother and protector of the universe to protect her helpless children. The asuras used to torture rishis in ancient times and God would come protect the rishis. These days a new form of demonic force is terrorising people (irrespective of race or religion). I pray to Bhavani to protect the meek and helpless and punish the wicked. Let the wicked also shed their wicked ego and realise their inner blissful selves.
