Babur

I choose to write this, only because everyone's talking about it these days. As a history enthusiast it is my humble attempt to write what I feel really happened and objectively to see what is right.

Let us suppose, someone drives you away from home. They occupy your house illegally. After some time, let us for the sake of ease assume 15-20 years, your son, tries to get back the land. But his brothers and sisters, brand him communal! Yes communal! They call him a religious bigot and a fundamentalist. They turn a blind eye to the fact that his house has been illegally occupied. Does all this sound like non-sense. How can this happen in today's world you say? Well, welcome to the largest "democracy" in the world. Welcome to Pseudo Secular India!

"You are communal! You are a hard liner! You are anti-minority!" I get this from all my pseudo secular friends. It does not matter that I reverently bow at Sufi Shrines. It does not matter to them that I can quote poems by Rumi Jalaluddin. It does not matter to them that I love and worship a Sadguru and divine incarnation who always used to say "Allah Malik". If anything, I am not anti-any religion. I believe in my Guru's dictum "Sabka Malik ek" (There is only one god for everyone). I think this sufficiently qualifies me to give an objective view regarding this burning log of wood, which no one wants to touch, called the famed "Ram Janmabhoomi/Baabri Masjid" issue.

Let us analyze the history behind the issue. Why is this mosque called Babri Masjid. It is because it is named after the first Mogul emperor of India, Zahiruddin Muhammed Babur. Let us analyze the person in question. Who was this Babur. The Baburnama (Babur's autobiography) claims that Babur was both a Mongol (Mogul is the Persian word for Mongol) and a Chagatai Turk. He claims to be a proud descendant of the largest land emperor, the infamous Genghis Khan (Oceanic ruler) through his mother. And a descendant of the Chagatai Turk Timur Leng (Timur the lame). Now no one, in their right minds, would be proud of this ancestry. For both Genghis and Timur have killed more people than Adolf Hitler could conceive in his sick mind. They were like a swarm of locusts that destroyed the crop called humanity. For example, Genghis Khan, when he invaded China, used women and children captured during war as human shields against the arrows being fired from the great wall. When Timur captured Delhi, and the residents rebelled, to put down the rebellion, he killed an estimated 80,000 people and left their carcasses all around so no one would rebel. This is the proud ancestry of the man, who is praised by our history books as the first great Mogul emperor!

Why did he come to India? Because he liked our land as our "eminent" historians would have us believe. He could not establish his claim on Uzbekistan, Persia and Samarkand. Local warlords drove him all the way to Kabul. And when he could see danger approaching Kabul too, what does he do, but see that the cowardly Ibrahim Lodi rules over Delhi. In an act of desperation he leads his armies in war against the slave dynasty. In the terrain known today as Panipat, Babur's armies faced the disoriented forces of a weak leader called Ibrahim Lodi. Because the Ottoman Turks had access to the technology being developed in Europe, they were quick to use Janissary in their armies who used Matchlock Muskets and canons in wars. Babur was quick to seize this opportunity and introduced them in his war and won the battle.

After consolidating his position in Delhi, at Khanwa he was to meet one of  his most dangerous rivals. They were known to fight till the end, and their main weapon was bravery. They had stopped an Arab invasion in the 7th-8th Century AD and reclaimed Sindh from Arabs and drove the Arabs away. And they were led by a man with a single eye and a single hand but a deadly warrior called Rana Sanga.

On the first day, the Turkik and Mogul barbarians showed how cowardly they were. The much numerically superior and brave Rajput army just routed them. Rana Sangha decided the time was right to end the battle sent his commander in chief, the brave but ambitious Shiladitya to meet with Babur and discuss the terms of surrender on part of Babur. Babur, the ever cunning, saw that Shiladitya was very ambitious. He professed to crown Shiladitya, the King of Chittor, if Shiladitya was to help Babur. The greedy Shiladitya agreed, and thus the next day by treachery Babur occupied Rajput lands, thus making his incursions into most of North India.

In the next post, I will describe the ramifications of this disastrous event on the history of India.
